Sinno Simons is a pediatrician - neonatologist whose major research interest is neonatal pharmacology.

His PhD research concerned the management of pain in neonates. The main study was a randomised placebo controlled trial on the effect of morphine in ventilated neonates. The pain assessment data obtained in this trial were used to validate the COMFORT scale in preterm neonates, which resulted in the COMFORT neo scale.

His current research efforts concentrate on PK/PD trials of off-label drugs administered to preterm neonates and studies to find the best sedative therapy for endotracheal intubation in neonates.
