Erwin Ista (1973) is a nurse scientist at the Erasmus MC-Sophia Children’s Hospital. He has been a paediatric intensive care nurse since 2000. Erwin received a PhD in 2008 for a doctoral thesis entitled: “COMFORTABLY CALM, Soothing Sedation of Critically Ill Children Without Withdrawal Symptoms”.
From 2010 until 2013 he was an implementation fellow in the Health Care Efficiency Research program of the Netherlands Organisation for Health Research and Development (ZonMw). His special research interest lies in optimizing ways to assess pain, sedation, withdrawal syndrome and delirium in infants and children. He is also involved in implementation science and quality improvement research projects. Furthermore, he supervised research projects of nurses and PhD students.
